Abbey of St-Genis-des-Fontaines www.ville-saintgenisdesfontaines.fr Founded in 778-780: dedicated to Saint-Genis, martyr of Christ (+ 303). Destroyed in the middle of the ninth century by Norman raiders, it was rebuilt over the following decades. Saint Michael's Church of the 11th century and its lintel, cloister of the 13th century with its chapel of Santa Coloma. Medieval origin. Distance from camping: 32 km Priory of Santa Maria del Vilar (Villelongue dels Monts) www.villelongue-dels-monts.com Museum, frescoes, nymphaeum, founded in 1083 by a community of Augustinian canons.This priory abandoned for centuries, is overgrown. Indeed, long before the village was there, the Fenouillèdes was inhabited by prehistoric people who have left traces on the rock called: Carrau or the hole site: Encantadas. At the time megalithic (2200 B.C.), local residents became accustomed to erect stones, today named: Menhirs (megaliths).
