De Nature/Conservation Most reactions of the guests of Mas de la Balma refer to their stay in unspoiled nature. On La Balma you can still enjoy the tranquillity, the sun, the shadow, the hovering of the many butterflies and the rich variety of flowers and plants. It is nearly impossible to make a complete enumeration of the multitude of all different species in this area.   Walking on La Balma is walking between stone oaks, oaks, chestnut-trees and also wild cherry-trees, wild apple-trees, junipers and much more.   The small evaporating clouds after a rain shower make you feel in the rain forest. Sometimes the hoarse barking of a deer, down in the valley or the ‘oehoe’ of an owl can be heard.    La Balma has a number of sources and rivers and is green even in the driest summers. Further into the forest traces of wild pigs can be seen and lots of birds let you hear their songs. The golden oriole, the hoopoe, the woodpecker... and more. There are more than 12 species of orchids on La Balma.              Each season has its own collection of flowers and grasses.   During the summer, butterflies frisk around the buddleias. During the night the moths look for the warmth of the walls of the facility buildings and you can hear the squeaking of small bats.
