Special places

Mas de la Balma has some very special places, which will quickly fill a place in your heart. Besides the old Mas, the central building of the camping site, there are three special places which are all strongly associated with water.

 Plan d’eau
The ruins of the old Catalan forge Moulin de Léonard are situated at the lowest part of the camping site. The small mountain river that used to run there in the past now feeds the natural swimming pool by a 3 meters high beautiful waterfall. It makes the water in the swimming pool very refreshing.
The pool is 30 x 20 meters and 0.9 to 2.40 meters deep.
For children (and adults) it is a challenge to jump from the top of the waterfall into the swimming pool.
The Plan d’eau is surrounded by sunbathing areas, which also offer many natural shady places.

 Spring
Farther into the woods you can find the small source ‘Font de las encantadas’, the source of the fairies. This source was already mentioned in documents dating from the 15th century.
In olden times the inhabitants of this region came to this source to fetch water and to celebrate their ceremonies.
You can still feel the mystical atmosphere today.


 Le paradis
Starting at the Font de las encantadas it is a short walk to what children in 1978 called Le Paradis. Here the river of Saint Marsal runs hidden and stilly through its mountainous watercourse into a natural basin. It is wonderful to splash and play there.
A lot of adults and children enjoy following the river upstream.
